Gossip

I've mentioned this before, but I'm currently reading the Lysa Terkeurst book, Becoming More Than a Good Bible Study Girl. It is amazing!

Anyway, I had to share this convicting quote from her as well as a few reminders she gives about what the Bible teaches about gossip.

"What comes out of our mouths is a telltale sign of who we are, who we serve, and what we truly believe."

There are 3 crucial rules the Bible teaches us about our words.

1. Guard your tongue to keep out of trouble.
"He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity." Proverbs 21:23

2. Limit your words to be wise.
"When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise." Proverbs 10:19
Ask yourself three thing before speaking: Are my words kind? Are they true? Are the necessary?

3. Use your words to validate your relationship with the Lord, not negate it.
"If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless." James 1:26

Imagine the number of relationship issues that would simply vanish if we were all more committed to loving words!
