First, let me say how much I appreciate your support. All the comments on the last post made me feel so much better.
One of my most favorite things about teaching preschool is how incredibly flexible it is. We aren't under the pressures that the other grades are to meet standards and be ready for state tests. Generally, the other preschool teacher and I plan at least one week long unit a month where we do nothing but hands on activities. "No work" as the kids say but what they don't realize is how much they are truly learning. Anyway, this week we are doing a cooking unit. I wasn't all for this, but I went along. I have to say though, it's been so fun. Monday, I brought in every kind of kitchen utensil and we learned their names and what they are for. Tuesday, we got to do a scavenger hunt in the school's kitchen which was actually very fun. The kids were amazed at how huge everything in there was compared to what they usually see in their kitchens at home. Wednesday, we were chefs. Each child made a mini pizza that we actually cooked in the oven. I was a little nervous about this activity, but they did very well. They talked about those pizzas all day! I can just imagine the conversations at home tonight! Today, we are writing our own recipes and Friday we are making smoothies using the blender. Hopefully that goes as well as the pizzas!

How to make a pizza:
1. Spread the sauce evenly on the dough.
2. Sprinkle cheese on top of the sauce.
3. Cook and enjoy!!
Yum, that pizza was good!!

Precious! I love preschoolers..I taught for awhile, and I loved cooking with them. It can be a bit messy, but they really truly enjoy it, and it's such a good learning experience!

How great that you're teaching them about the kitchen. My toddler looooooves "cooking" in his little play kitchen right now!
