What I've been reading about

Do you ever feel like the closer you get to God, the harder Satan works to get to you? I've had to have some serious talks with God about this lately. Sometimes, I feel so tested and it's so hard.

"Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw close to God and He will draw close to you." James 4:7-8

Does it seem like sometimes certain situations are placed in front of you just solely to test you? But, God has a plan. He has placed you exactly where you are according to his purpose.

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose." "Romans 8:28

Do you ever feel like you worry, worry, worry about things or people to the point where you make yourself sick? Worrying does not add one single minute to your life. Why waste such precious time?

"The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies." Psalm 118:6-7

And friends, people are only human. They will hurt you, and you will hurt others. It's how you choose to handle the situation that counts.

"Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable." Romans 12:17

These are just a few of the things I have learned and that have had such an impact on my life right now. I just finished Lysa Terkeurst's book "What happens When Women Walk in Faith". I definitely recommend reading it to anyone who is learning what it means to leave your worries behind  and trust in him completely.

My Bible study group is starting Lysa's new book "Becoming More Than a Good Bible Study Girl" tomorrow night. I've read the first 3 chapters already and can tell this is going to be a favorite as well.

"Create in me a pure heart oh God and renew a steadfast spirit in me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you." Psalm 51:10-13
 *LOVE these 4 verses*

I hope everything is okay for you. God really does take care of us, but I definitely know how hard it is to let go and believe when life is testing you.

The book you just finished sounds like one that I really need to read asap. Also, a couple of the verses you posted really speak to me today.. Thank you so much for sharing.

The great thing about us having a close relationship with God during these hard times is this : We know we are being tested by Satan himself, and we know God is trying to teach us something. It's our entire outlook on situations that is different when we have faith. We are able to look at a really crappy thing and find the good in it. I'm so proud of you for how you have handled yourself during some of these hard times. You my dear have MUCH class!

This is how the devil works. It's funny because my girlfriend and I were JUST talking about this... I was saying how wonderful it was to be immersed in the word, but how I have never felt more swayed by temptation.
Great post!

Melissa...such a good post and I'll have to get this book, for sure. It's obvious that you've been able to "taste and see that the LORD is good" (Ps 34:8) All it takes is to KNOW Him and obey Him.

The devil's lie always results in "hurts, habits, and hang-ups" I could go on and on but I'll stop now :)
I'm so proud to call you my friend....LOVE YOU!!
